How it works
How the test goes
-
You type the address
Type the address of the home page or a subpage. You do not need to type https://. We follow the redirect to where the page really lives.
-
Our server fetches the page
We read the HTML code and the response headers once, plus robots.txt, the sitemap, llms.txt, security.txt, the page’s icon and at most six files that the page itself links to. We also check whether the http address leads on to https.
-
You get grades and fixes
Each check becomes good, can be improved or should be fixed. Six category scores are weighed into one overall grade, and the three most important fixes go at the top.
Good to know about the method
- We run no JavaScript. Content that is created only in the browser is not seen by the test, just like by a simple search robot.
- This is not a Lighthouse measurement. Response time and size are measured from our server, not in a real phone.
- We test one page at a time, not the whole website.
- The test is passive. We try no logins, hidden addresses or vulnerabilities.
- The address is not stored. To limit the number of tests we count them: per connection for at most a day and per tested website for five minutes. The counters are stored as check values that cannot be traced back to an address.
- Sites on the same server as yourweb.se cannot be tested from here, for security reasons.
What does the website test check?
The test reads the page the way a search engine does: it fetches the HTML code, the response headers and a few files that the page itself points to. Then about fifty points are assessed in six categories.
SEO
Does the page have a title and a meta description of a suitable length? Is there a clear main heading, a canonical address and a sitemap, and may search engines index the page at all? This is the foundation that decides how you are presented in the search results.
Speed
We measure how fast the server answers, how big the HTML code is, whether it is sent compressed and whether images, CSS and scripts may stay in the visitor’s cache. This is often where the easiest wins are: compression and cache are settings, not a rebuild.
Security
The test checks that the page uses HTTPS, that the certificate is valid and does not expire soon, that http is forwarded to https and that important security headers such as HSTS are in place.
Mobile and accessibility
Does the page follow the width of the screen? Do the images have alt text, do the form fields have labels and is the language stated? Anyone browsing on a phone or using a screen reader notices such things at once.
Sharing and structure
When someone shares your link on LinkedIn, Facebook or in a message, the title, description and image are fetched from the page’s Open Graph tags. If they are missing, the link becomes a grey box that few people click.
AI search
More and more people ask an AI service instead of searching the way they used to. The test sees whether AI search robots may read the page, whether the content is in the HTML code from the start and whether structured data helps the services understand what the company does.
What does the grade mean?
Each category gets 0–100 points and is weighed into an overall grade: A from 90 points, B from 75, C from 60, D from 40 and E below that. A B or better means the foundation is in order. A C or lower is usually down to a few things that can be corrected: start with the “Start here” list, where the three fixes that weigh most are at the top.
The grade is a technical check of a single page. It says nothing about how well the texts sell, how you rank for a particular search term or how the page feels in a real phone on a poor network.
What do I do with the result?
Start with what should be fixed. A lot of it you or your web host can solve yourselves: turn on compression, write a meta description or renew a certificate. Copy the summary and send it to whoever looks after the page.
If you want help, we have fixed packages for the most common things: an SEO analysis with a prioritised action list, speed optimisation of WordPress, a security check of domain, DNS and email and basic AI search optimisation. Frequently asked questions
Questions about the website test
Is the website test really free?
Yes. You do not need to create an account or give an email address, and you can test several pages. So that the tool is enough for everyone, you can run at most six tests in five minutes and forty a day from the same connection.
Is the address I test stored?
No. The address is sent to our server, which fetches the page and works out the result. It is not stored in any database or log and does not end up in our visitor statistics. The only things stored are counters that limit the number of tests: per connection for at most a day and per tested website for five minutes. They are stored as check values that cannot be traced back to an address.
Why do I get a different result than in Google PageSpeed Insights?
The tools measure different things. PageSpeed Insights runs the page in a real browser and measures how it is drawn. Our test fetches the page once from a server and runs no JavaScript. So we see response time, size, compression and settings, but not how long the page takes to become usable on a phone.
May I test someone else’s website?
Yes. The test only reads what every visitor and search engine can already see, and it tries neither logins nor hidden addresses. Many people test a competitor to compare.
My page is built with JavaScript. Does the test still work?
Partly. Headings, texts and meta tags that are created only in the browser are not seen by the test, and then they can look like they are missing. The same goes for search robots that do not run JavaScript, so the result is still worth taking seriously.
Can I see whether an online shop is safe to buy from?
No, that is not what the test is made for. It shows how well a website is built and set up, and it is aimed at you who own or look after the page. A good grade here says nothing about the company behind the page.
Why can’t my page be tested?
Most often the address is misspelled, the server stops automatic requests or the page requires a login. Sites on the same server as yourweb.se cannot be tested from here, for security reasons.
